The reason why most tourist can’t help but visit Crete is because of it’s historical importance.

Now, after you have had the chance to enjoy the sun and fun, as well as some of the historical sites, be sure to see all that Crete has to offer. In the eastern Crete, you’ll find Alexandros Bar where you can have a taste of Crete’s night life and bar scenes. You’ll have a view that you won’t see anywhere – only at Crete: the cheap drinks and the dancing will make you enjoy the bar hopping. A lot of people say that for one to find a good bar, he has to listen to the music being played.

Find a good place where you can stay before rushing towards Crete. There are several cheap hotels in Crete, and one that comes to mind is the Fortezza. The cost really depends on the time that you will make the reservation but generally it’s a little over a hundred US dollars a night. Some of the amenities are breakfast buffet for free and a wireless internet access. Another option is Mirabello Hotel. A lot of frugal travelers prefer this kind of budget hotel chains to the other hotels, mainly because of the cost. Many hotels around the Mirabello will be charging twice what they are. There are so many other activities to do in Crete, such as scuba diving to over twenty different dive sites. Or if you do not want to dip into the water, you can just go on a boat tour.

If the water is not to your taste and you want dry land, then you can try out some of the hiking tours that are available in Crete and Santorini. You can try your hand at hiking the Samaria Gorge if you are really adventurous.

The Island of Crete has a lot to offer for individuals that enjoy the outdoors. From diving to hiking during the day, and bar hopping at night, Crete is a great island to put on your places-to-visit list.

Brits prepare for long hot summer as weathermen predict heat waves

June 8th, 2010

The last weekend in England really showed us how hot the weather can turn within a few short days. Temperatures of around 30 Celsius is not very common in the UK, so naturally people get really excited when the weathermen predicts a few hot days.

Families are travelling to the see side, the parks are full of people sunbathing for hours and hours. Young ladies get their swimming suits out and the men take their long forgotten hobbies to the park to enjoy every bit of the sunshine while it lasts. Items we have not seen for ages are starting to re-emerge from the back of our cupboards, tennis shoes, shorts, shirts and of course hats to protect our forehead.

Whilst we enjoy the sun, we must not forget that we also have to provide adequate protection against getting sunburnt. One of the great ways to protect ourselves is to use suntan lotion, and no matter how much we love sunbathing we must avoid it between noon and approximately 2 pm, when the heat is hottest.

Regarding protecting our kids there are a few things that are essential. Babies must not be put outside the direct sunlight; their young skin is not yet strong enough to withstand the heat. Many parents choose to purchase a pop up travel cot, that is a great and cost effective item to protect our newborn babies with its special net that is designed to stop insect and also to create shade inside. It is also light which makes it ideal for families looking to leave the urban areas, either for parks or for the see side.

If we just take these two advices we can be rest assured that our newborn baby should be well protected during hot days.

People over the age of 60 should also consider protecting themselves from the heat as they are much more likely to suffer heat related health problems than the young or middle aged. Elderly people are advised to stay indoors during the hottest hours and to do their necessary day to day shopping during the early mornings or in the evenings. Alternatively they can also ask close relatives to help them out for a few days, while the heat lasts.

No matter how beautiful the hot weather can be, it has some serious affects on most people so it is much better to be protected.
