Kidder Speaks at Eastern Oklahoma MGMA Monthly Meeting
August 27th, 2010Jamie Kidder, Director of Student Services at Community Care College (CCC), Clary Sage College (CSC) and Oklahoma Technical College (OTC), spoke at the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Group Management Association’s (MGMA) monthly meeting on team building and dynamics.
The MGMA “is dedicated to providing their members with educational opportunities that will promote professionalism and improve the quality of health care to the patients and communities they serve,” according to its mission statement.
Kidder was brought in to speak with these managers in the administrative medical fields to promote team dynamics and to learn other team members’ roles in a group setting.
She brought in many hands-on activities including building a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows. This difficult task allowed the teams to see who was the critical thinker, the leader, etc. In other words, how the strengths of the individual build a great team.
After the meeting, the attendees filled out a survey to assess the effectiveness of the material presented. Attendees answered “strongly agree” to the question of if the speaker was knowledgeable and prepared (97%), if her presentation skills were effective (97%), if they were able to perform the skills and/or apply the concepts presented (89%) and if enough analogies and examples were given to illustrate technical points (89%).
